Tractor Supply Recognized as One of America’s Most Sustainable Companies

For the first time, premier investing publication Barron’s has released a list of the 100 most sustainable companies in the United States, ranking Tractor Supply Company at an impressive number 40.

Barron’s strives to provide information on what keenly interests investors, and as sustainability becomes an increasingly more important aspect of how companies operate and conduct business, it has emerged as a relevant factor for those who invest in them. The publication tapped Calvert Research and Management to conduct the analysis, evaluating the sustainability efforts of some of the country’s most recognizable companies.

In creating the list, Calvert compiled the 1,000 largest publicly-held companies (based on market value) with headquarters in the United States. From there, they assessed each company according to 300 performance indicators across five categories, as supplied by six different data providers: Shareholders, Employees, Customers, Planet, and Community. For each of these five categories, Calvert’s analysts ranked the companies on a scale from 0-100, with each score weighted to account for relevance to the industry. They then calculated the average to assign an overall score.

Tractor Supply received a final score of 69, placing it between Teradata and Starbucks. The company received its highest score in the Community category, which includes issues like community engagement, animal welfare and food sourcing. TSC’s Community score of 85 was higher than that received by any of the top five-ranked companies on the list. None of our individual scores fell below 60.

Tractor Supply’s high ranking in the list is a testament to our team members’ commitment to our Mission and Values. The desire to live our Mission and Values drives us to do the right thing for our customers, team members, shareholders and communities.
